Interview – Travel in Japan

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Austria

WHAT DO YOU DO IN JAPAN?

19 days of vacation – a round trip from Tokyo through Hakone – Mt. Fuji, Izu Peninsula – Shimoda, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara (maybe Hiroshima), and back to Tokyo.

WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JAPAN?

Japan is such an incredibly diverse country with so much culture and history. I wanted to experience a real culture shock! Plus, the food is amazing.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO STAY IN THIS CITY?

Japan is such an incredibly diverse country with so much culture and history. I wanted to experience a real culture shock! Plus, the food is amazing.

WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?

TeamLab Planets, view from Tokyo Skytree, Age 3 Sandwiches, Tsukiji Fish Market, Restaurant Unagi Obana, Gotoku-ji Temple with the many small cats.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE STAYING ABROAD?

The many different areas and that there is something to see/try everywhere. That the people are incredibly friendly and help you everywhere. And of course, the good food.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE BEING IN JAPAN?

That you don’t understand or can read anything of the language. That sometimes you have to walk forever to get to the metro station even though you’re already in the station.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JAPAN AND YOUR COUNTRY?

Simply everything! There are soooo many different restaurants and bars. Everything is so organized and runs smoothly. The people are very nice and helpful. There are hardly any trash bins anywhere in Japan.

DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS?

No, not really. But I will definitely come back to Japan to see/experience a lot more.

Maybe that in the future I will eat more ramen and udon :p

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

To travel to Japan again someday and have more time. I would like to see the islands of Okinawa and the area in Hokkaido and maybe also hike Mt. Fuji.

MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL GO TO JAPAN.

I’m not learning Japanese, so I can’t really answer the question.

The characters look very complicated to me. So I imagine it would be very difficult to learn the language.

HOW DO YOU LEARN JAPANESE?

I’m not learning the language and probably never will. But I would either take a course or use the Duolingo app.
