Q&A

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

Japan & Phillippines

WHAT DO YOU DO IN JAPAN?

I currently work in different industries, widening my knowledge and experiences in different fields. Primarily, I serve as a travel agent at a start-up travel agency. Additionally, I work as a property assistant, managing share houses and rental apartments. In my free time, I offer my services as a babysitter and an English sitter, further enriching my skill set and contributing to the community.

WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JAPAN?

I got into Japan and the Japanese culture because, like many millennials, I grew up watching anime, which piqued my interest in the Japanese culture. Plus, being half-Japanese only fueled my curiosity even more!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO STAY IN THIS CITY?

During my 7 years in Japan, I’ve lived in various locations, immersing myself in both countryside tranquility and city hustle. Life in the countryside is more relaxed and quiet; it lacks entertainment options and convenient transportation. On the flip side, in the city, like Kobe, I have easy access to different places and enjoy numerous events; however, city life can get hectic and noisy.

WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?

Honestly, Kobe is packed with awesome stuff to do! Being sandwiched between the mountains and the sea means you can easily dive into all sorts of adventures. But if I had to pick one must-see spot, it would be the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens. Especially in spring, when the place bursts into a riot of colors with blooming flowers, it’s like stepping into a beautiful painting! Definitely a must-visit.

WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE STAYING ABROAD?

Japan is super safe, even for solo female travelers like me! I’ve spent a lot of time exploring different corners of the country all by myself, navigating from point A to point B with my then-limited Japanese skills a few years ago. And you know what? Even now, I still love traveling around Japan, not just to see new places but also to find hidden gems like restaurants, fun activities, and festivals. There’s always something exciting waiting to be discovered!

DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS AFTER YOU START YOUR JOURNEY?

I can definitely feel an evident amount of change in my life compared to how it was before. I still don’t have a clue about what I want to do in the future, and I’m still figuring it out. But honestly, with the people, experiences, and career I have right now, I couldn’t be happier. I’m pretty content and wouldn’t change a thing.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

My dream is to travel to every country in the world, immersing myself in diverse cultures, savoring local cuisines, and connecting with people from different walks of life. The global diversity absolutely fascinates me!

MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL GO TO JAPAN.

Japan offers a great variety of experiences. From its delectable food options to convenient transportation, mesmerizing sightseeing spots across all seasons, high-quality products, deep-rooted culture, and the exceptional “omotenashi” or Japanese hospitality, it’s a country that truly has it all!

HOW DO YOU LEARN JAPANESE?

I picked up some Japanese words and phrases by watching anime. Some cities in Japan actually offer basic Japanese lessons for free. I took the plunge and enrolled in a Japanese language school, dedicating a whole year to studying the language. Since my closest friend at the language school didn’t speak English, it helped me improve my Japanese.
