I was taught Japanese as a foreign language in primary school. After that I fell in love with the culture, the language and the traditions of the country.

The teachers are all very friendly and helpful. They are willing to go above and beyond to help you out. The pacing of all the classes are good, not too fast and not too slow. The teachers are all very willing to help you out whether academically or even day-to-day inquiries.

I’ve always loved the Kansai area, and especially Kyoto, where it is rich Japanese culture and amazing natural scenery, not to mention the amazing food. I love how Kyoto is the centre of Japan and that it is close to other cities, which allows you to go travelling and exploring all around Japan.

Arashiyama is definitely a must visit in Kyoto, not only is the scenery amazing, there is also a lot of food and other activities such as onsens that you can experience when visiting.
- WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE LIVING IN JAPAN?

Being able to try all sorts of different food, going to festivals and just experiencing the culture of Japan. Just walking around the city and finding new restaurants, cafes and hidden temples.
- WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE BEING IN JAPAN?

The biggest challenge of course has been the language, trying to navigate anything in Japan is challenge if you do not have a basic level of Japanese. Even in places such as the airport, absolutely no English or other foreign languages are spoken by staff, hence the importance of knowing Japanese in Japan.
- WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JAPAN AND YOUR COUNTRY?

Like all relocation there are definitely a learning curve when it comes to settling in Japan. I found that there was definitely a learning curve and some difficulties when it came to the administrative side of moving to Japan. Such as opening a bank account.
- DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS?

With moving to a new country and learning a new language skill, there are much more opportunities for work, travel and making new friends from different countries. It has given me a different perspective on life and how to grasp every opportunity that comes your way.
- WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

To be able to work and travel all around Japan. There are so many hidden gems all across the country, whether its food, culture or traditions, I would like to experience and see more of what this beautiful country has to offer.

Although Japanese can be quite challenging at times, but as you Japanese skills increase, it is very rewarding when you start understanding the language better and in turn create many memories and experiences you’d never would have imagined.
