Interview – Story in Japan
- WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
-
United Kingdom
- WHAT DO YOU DO IN JAPAN?
-
I’m an English teacher.
- WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN JAPAN?
-
I first became interested in Japan when I was younger. I used to watch a lot of travel videos and documentaries about Japan. It’s very different to the UK, so l wanted to visit and experience the culture for myself.
- WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO STAY IN THIS CITY?
-
I currently live in Kanagawa prefecture, and it’s a very good location. It’s close to Tokyo and to the ocean as well. It wasn’t my first choice, but my workplace decided for me. However, I am very happy living where I do.
- WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE STAYING ABROAD?
-
I enjoy the fact that no day is the same. I am constantly experiencing different things every day. I have also made incredible friends while living here.Exploring new places with new friends is also something I really like about Japan.
- DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS AFTER YOU START YOUR JOURNEY?
-
Before coming to Japan, I lived a very easy life. I still lived with my parents and didn’t pay any household bills. Since moving here, I have been pushed out of my comfort bubble. Gaining independence and confidence in myself has been the biggest effect of moving here. Living in a foreign country when you have no real knowledge of the culture or language is a massive challenge, however, the people in Japan have made me feel safe, and I know that if I need help, I can always find it.
One last thing that has changed would be my goals. When you have some free time to sit down and evaluate your current situation, it makes you realize what you want to change or achieve. Being in Japan has changed my goals, and I am on the path to figuring out exactly what I want from this experience. It’s very difficult to decide what you want in life, but achieving the small goals is just as important as reaching the final ones.
- WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
-
My dream is to travel the world and write about my experiences. I love learning about new cultures and ways of life that are different from what I grew up with. My main goal would be to write a book some day.
- MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO WILL GO TO JAPAN.
-
Japan is honestly such an amazing country. Rich with culture and history too. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, you must take it. Some advice I can give is to plan your trip well. Know exactly what you want to see. There is something interesting in every town in Japan that’s impossible to fit into one trip. It’s best to know what you want to see before you arrive.
