COURSES
Standard Japanese Course
Genki JACS Kyoto’s Standard Japanese Course focuses on communicative language skills for daily life, travel, work and cultural interaction. Designed for beginner to advanced learners, classes balance grammar, speaking, listening and practical activities in small groups (maximum of 8 students). The curriculum emphasizes real-world Japanese, helping learners build confidence in conversation, reading, writing and listening. Courses start every Monday year-round, with flexible durations from 2 weeks to up to 6 months or more, allowing students to tailor their study to personal goals. This course is ideal for learners wanting a solid foundation and ongoing skill development.
Japanese Plus Culture Course
The Japanese Plus Culture Course blends language learning with Japanese cultural experiences. In addition to standard lessons focused on communication and grammar, students engage with traditional art forms, cultural workshops and local activities that deepen understanding of Japanese life. This course enhances linguistic ability while offering firsthand exposure to Kyoto’s heritage, such as tea ceremony, calligraphy or festival customs. Designed for students who wish to explore culture alongside language, the program gives context and real-world application to classroom skills. Flexible start dates and durations make it suitable for short-term and long-term study goals.
ACCOMMODATION
Homestay
Homestay offers placement with a Japanese host family, providing daily cultural and language immersion while studying. Living with a local family helps students practice conversation outside the classroom, experience Japanese customs, meals and daily life, and improve speaking confidence. Homestays are suitable for short-term and first-time learners who want real-world language exposure in a supportive environment. Hosts often provide breakfast, and dinner may be included depending on the arrangement. Homestay is a popular option for students seeking deeper cultural engagement and a comfortable place to live in Kyoto. Typical weekly cost varies by season and host family.
Student Dormitory / Shared Residence
Genki JACS can arrange shared residences or dormitory-style housing for students seeking community living. These accommodations usually include private or shared rooms with shared kitchens and common areas, allowing students to interact socially while maintaining independence. Residents live near the school or in nearby neighborhoods with good access to public transport, shops and cultural sites. This option suits learners who prefer a balance between social living and personal space, making it easier to meet other students and practice Japanese outside class. Pricing depends on room type, duration and location.
Private Apartment
For learners who prefer full independence, Genki JACS can assist in finding private apartments in Kyoto. These furnished units include a kitchen, bathroom and living space, ideal for long-term students or those valuing privacy and flexibility. Apartments give students complete control over their daily routine, meals and lifestyle. Living on your own provides a more local experience and can be a comfortable choice for those planning extended stays. Weekly or monthly rental rates vary widely based on location, size and amenities, so contacting the school for up-to-date pricing details is recommended.
