WHERE ARE YOU FROM?: Japan
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF!: I am Kein, teaching Japanese on Instagram and TikTok under the name keins_japanese. My hobby is studying English. Currently, I can fluently engage in everyday conversation and am working on studying for exams like the TOEIC because I wish to work using English in the future.
TELL US ABOUT THE CHARM OF THE CITY YOU ARE CURRENTLY LIVING IN.: I came to Tokyo from Hokkaido for university. Tokyo has many places to sightsee and a lot of people, but on the other hand, if you go to the countryside of Tokyo, there are many places where you can enjoy nature, which I think is attractive.
WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?: In Tokyo, I recommend Akihabara. It’s the best place for people who love anime. In my hometown of Hokkaido, the city of Otaru is highly recommended. There are many attractive places like the Otaru Canal and Kitaichi Glass. Also, Hokkaido is famous for seafood, so please enjoy seafood dishes in Hokkaido!
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TEACH JAPANESE?: I began teaching Japanese on social media in January 2023. There are many international students at my university, and I wanted to improve my English through interaction with them. Hearing about their passion for learning Japanese and the difficulties they faced, I wanted to teach Japanese in a more enjoyable and understandable way.
HOW ARE YOU TEACHING JAPANESE NOW?: I am teaching Japanese on TikTok and Instagram. Knowing that many people started learning Japanese because of anime, I’ve been teaching Japanese using methods that combine anime and the language recently.

WHAT DO YOU FIND ENJOYABLE ABOUT TEACHING JAPANESE?: Receiving many happy comments is enjoyable. Every time I post a video and receive comments like “This is so helpful!” it makes me very happy and motivates me to create better videos.
WHAT DO YOU FIND DIFFICULT ABOUT TEACHING JAPANESE?: I often receive questions about Japanese conjunctions, and explaining them in English in an understandable way is very difficult. Also, Japanese has many words like “端” (edge), “橋” (bridge), “箸” (chopsticks) that, despite having the same spelling, are pronounced differently, making it hard to explain these differences.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS IMPORTANT WHEN LEARNING JAPANESE?: Enjoying the learning process is the most important thing, I believe. Thus, I always recommend learning Japanese through anime. Anime includes formal Japanese and plenty of slang, allowing for the acquisition of more practical Japanese quickly.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?: My dream is to grow my TikTok and Instagram to let more people know about Japanese culture and charm through the language. Also, I aim to develop services that support the lives of foreigners coming to Japan in the future.
MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO ARE STUDYING JAPANESE.: Japanese might be seen as a difficult language, but please keep working hard without forgetting to enjoy it! ■ 自己紹介をお願いします！
私はkeins_japaneseという名前でInstagramとTikTokで日本語を教えているkeinです。私。私の趣味は英語を勉強することです。今現在、日常会話は流暢にできるようになりましたが、将来英語を使って仕事をしたいと考えているのでTOEICなどの資格の勉強に取り組んでいます。

■ いま暮らしている街の魅力を教えてください。
私は大学のために北海道から東京に来ました。東京は観光するところがとても多く、人が沢山いますが、一方で東京の田舎の方に行くと自然を楽しめるところも沢山あるところが魅力だと思います。

■ この街でおすすめの場所はどこですか。
東京でおすすめのところは、秋葉原です。秋葉原はアニメが好きな人にとって最高の場所だと思います。私の地元の北海道は小樽という街がとてもおすすめです。小樽運河や、北一硝子などとても魅力的な場所が沢山あります。また、北海道は海鮮が有名なので、ぜひ北海道で海鮮料理を楽しんでみてください！

■ 日本をを教えようと思ったのはいつですか？理由も教えてください。
2023年の1月からSNSで日本語を教え始めました。私の大学は留学生がとても多く、私は英語を上達させたかったので、彼らと沢山交流をしました。その中で、彼らから日本語を学ぶことに対する情熱や、難しさなどを聞き、日本語を学ぶ外国人に対してより楽しくわかりやすく日本語を教えたいと思ったのがきっかけです。

■ いまはどのように日本語を教えていますか？
TikTokとInstagramで日本語を教えています。アニメきっかけで日本語を学び始めた人が多いことを知り、最近はアニメと日本語を掛け合わせた方法で日本語教えています。

■ 日本語を教えていて、楽しいと思うことはなんですか。
沢山嬉しいコメントをいただくことです。動画を投稿するたびに、「役に立ちます！」などのコメントをいただくのでそれが自分にとってとても嬉しく、より良い動画を作ろう！とモチベーションが高まります。

■ 日本語を教えていて、難しいと思うことはなんですか。
日本語の接続詞についての質問をもらうことが多いのですが、それらをわかりやすく英語で伝えるのがとても難しいです。また、日本語は端、橋、箸など、文字は同じでも発音が違う言葉が沢山あるので、それらの違いをわかりやすく説明することもまた難しくと感じております。

■ 日本語を学ぶとき、重要だと思うことは何ですか？
楽しむことが1番重要だと思います。そのため、アニメを通じて日本語を学習することを私はいつもおすすめしています。アニメでは、フォーマルな日本語をはじめ、スラングも沢山出てくるので、より実践的な日本語を早く習得することができると思います。

■ あなたの夢はなんですか？
私の夢は、TikTokとInstagramを成長させて、より多くの人が日本語を通じて、日本の文化や魅力を知ってもらうことです。また、将来は日本にくる外国人の生活などをサポートするサービスを展開していきたいです。
