WHERE ARE YOU FROM?: Japan
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF!: My name is Sakina, and I work as a freelance Japanese teacher. My hobbies include traveling abroad, watching movies, reading, and beauty among others. After working as a Japanese teacher at language schools and universities in Taiwan, I returned to Japan with the desire to help Japanese learners from around the world. That’s why I started SS Japanese. I’m working hard every day to grow our community.
TELL US ABOUT THE CHARM OF THE CITY YOU ARE CURRENTLY LIVING IN.: I currently live in Tokyo, a bustling city popular with tourists from abroad, yet it retains its traditional beauty.
WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL RECOMMENDATION IN THIS CITY?: Sensoji（Asakusa Kannon Temple） in Asakusa. It’s a famous temple that represents Japan. Around Sensoji, there are various cafes and souvenir shops, allowing you to feel the traditional side of Tokyo. The view of the Skytree from Sensoji is beautiful, and the nearby Sumida River is perfect for walks.
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TEACH JAPANESE?: During my university years. Through my experiences studying in America and traveling to various countries, I met many people interested in Japan. Since I also enjoy learning languages, I thought it would be great if people could study Japanese more casually. That’s why I started teaching Japanese on social media and online.
HOW ARE YOU TEACHING JAPANESE NOW?: I mainly use Instagram and YouTube to teach Japanese for free under the name SS JAPANESE. I also sell PDF materials and offer private lessons online. You can check the details of my services at my website: ssjapanese-sakina.com.

WHAT DO YOU FIND ENJOYABLE ABOUT TEACHING JAPANESE?: I find it rewarding to see my students’ Japanese improve, to have conversations in Japanese with students who initially spoke English, and to see them achieve their goals (like passing the JLPT).
WHAT DO YOU FIND DIFFICULT ABOUT TEACHING JAPANESE?: It can be challenging to teach subtle nuances that don’t directly translate into English, such as the use of sentence-ending particles, honorifics, and casual speech styles. I sometimes worry if I’m getting my point across properly.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS IMPORTANT WHEN LEARNING JAPANESE?: Motivation. It’s most important to set clear goals and continue studying towards those goals while having fun. Consistently studying, even just a little bit without giving up, is the fastest way to improve. Regularly exposing yourself to Japanese (like watching anime or Japanese YouTube videos) can also speed up your learning and keep you motivated.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?: I dream of growing SS JAPANESE into a larger company and managing it with a team someday. I want to expand our online courses and materials to create an environment where Japanese learners can study whenever they want, enjoying the process.
MESSAGE TO OUR FRIENDS WHO ARE STUDYING JAPANESE.: I understand that studying Japanese can feel overwhelming with so much to remember, and sometimes it might feel discouraging. Since there’s no end to language learning, try not to stress too much and enjoy the journey. If you make studying a habit and continue little by little, you’ll be surprised at your own growth in the future. Being able to speak Japanese will open up a new world for you, making every day more enjoyable. Let’s work hard together on our studies 🙂

■ 自己紹介をお願いします！
フリーランスで日本語教師をしているサキナです。趣味は海外旅行、映画鑑賞、読書、美容などです。台湾で日本語教師として語学学校と大学で働いたあと、日本に帰ってきて世界中の日本語学習者の役に立ちたいと思いSS Japaneseを始めました。コミュニティを大きくするために毎日活動をがんばっています。

■ いま暮らしている街の魅力を教えてください。
東京には海外からの観光客が多く、にぎやかですが伝統的できれいな町です。

■ この街でおすすめの場所はどこですか。
浅草寺。日本を代表する有名なお寺です。
浅草寺の周りにはいろいろなカフェやお土産屋さんなどもあって、東京なのに伝統的な日本を感じることができるのでおすすめです。
浅草寺から見えるスカイツリーもきれいだし、近くの隅田川は散歩にぴったりです。

■ 日本をを教えようと思ったのはいつですか？理由も教えてください。
大学生の頃。アメリカ留学やいろいろな国へ行った経験を通して日本に興味がある人たちに出会い、私自身も語学の勉強が好きなことから、海外の人がもっと気軽に日本語を勉強できるようになったらいいなと思いSNSやオンラインで日本語を教えることを始めました。

■ いまはどのように日本語を教えていますか？
SS JAPANESEという名前で主にInstagram、YouTubeで無料で日本語を教えたり、pdf教材の販売をしたり、オンラインでプライベートレッスンもしています。

■ 日本語を教えていて、楽しいと思うことはなんですか。
学生の日本語が上達していくのを見たり、最初は英語で会話をしていた学生と日本語でおしゃべりを楽しめたり、学生が目標に達成して(JLPT合格など)喜んでいるのを見るとやりがいを感じます。

■ 日本語を教えていて、難しいと思うことはなんですか。
英語に直訳できないような細かいニュアンスを教えるとき、うまく伝わっているか不安になることがあります。(終助詞の使い方、敬語やカジュアルな話し方のスピーチスタイルなど)

■ 日本語を学ぶとき、重要だと思うことは何ですか？
モチベーション。しっかり目標を立てて、その目標にむかって楽しみながら勉強を続けるのが1番大切だと思います。少しずつでもやめないで続けることが上達への1番の近道だと思います。日常的に日本語に触れる(アニメを見る、日本人のYouTubeを見るなど)と、上達も早いし、モチベーションも保てるはずです。

■ あなたの夢はなんですか？
SS JAPANESEをさらに大きくしていつか小さな会社としてチームで経営していけたらいいなと思っています。オンラインコースや教材をさらに増やして、日本語学習者が1人でも好きな時に楽しみながら勉強できる環境を作りたいです。

■ 日本語を勉強している皆さんへのメッセージ。
日本語の勉強をしていると覚えることが多すぎて大変で嫌になるときもあると思います。
言語の学習に終わりはないので、なるべくストレスに思わず、楽しみながら、勉強をこつこつ続けていって欲しいです。
少しずつでも勉強を習慣にして続けていくと、将来自分の成長ぶりに驚くはずです。
日本語が話せるようになると新しい世界が広がって、さらに毎日が楽しくなると思います。
